i love dnd..i love playing heavy utility/support/backfield and i love having three to six attacks in a turn and an insane ac. at heart im a support player ill get my hands on whatever we're missing in a group

#looks at a druid a fighter and a bard fighter. okay cleric time.#i LOVE playing cleric turns out.#though abjuration wizard is still super super fun its a different flavor of support #it's not buffs it's 'i am going to transfer literally all that damage to myself and war caster style succeed my witchbolt concentration'#doing insane amounts of damage while taking damage (+ with temp hp and then just a lot of hp. im taking the tough feat as soon as possible)#aabria iyengar was right these abjuration wizards are craaaazy. but war domain clerics also fuck hard #my abj wiz is very much an experiment in 'what if someone who is not at all suited to this life tries to adapt as well as she can'#the point is that she isn't a cleric. do u understand. she's not a cleric and that's the point it's the. hbbbgbfhb. she's out here #functioning as a combat medic on some aasimar features + healing kits/potions + arcane ward. Look At Me #i also really enjoy playing nonreligious characters in these worlds where deities 100% exist not in a 'fuck the gods' way but in #a way somewhere between 'i'm all i need' and 'i called and no one answered' and 'may or may not go on an insane power hungry spiral and #try to get a touch of godhood' which is in part very due to my own agnostic and people-loving heart and 'haha what if i icarused this girl'#a resentful caution towards gods an immense respect towards religious companions and 'when your god isn't here to help. i will be'#anyway REACTION arcane ward you don't take damage im fine. next turn reaction shield ward's back up. the thing is.#she will drive her hp down. the ward isn't much like it goes past that temp hp. it's 14hp that shit goes down and carries to her hp #but it never drops. any leveled spell puts hp back into the ward. a 1st lvl shield puts it at 2hp and she can use it again #she is not suited for these conditions but my god it is fun to watch. i care her.#i explained that subclass feature to a player that's not in that campaign and said. like. yeah she can take damage. when her ward drops to #0 it carries to her. any leveled abj spell puts it back up. and she can use it and drive her hp down again.#do u understand what i am explaining to u! do you get it! she is and has always been a punching bag!#she was a very valuable asset to the army and the group she was drafted! into. because when she's there. people just don't fucking go down #aside from her. aside from her. AAAAH. she's so cool. she is very smart i am still riding the high of critting every turn w witchbolt and #reacting to ward a party member against a crit that would have dropped him by taking the hit herself. and she didn't break concentration #badass

#anon i love this but i have a covenant with God so i can't kill Him with you #this reminds me of the time my brother lamented his atheism and my agnosticism on behalf of our religious mother. but i'm not agnostic.#so i clarified i believe in God and that's never changed. i just choose not to worship Him + I think there are multiple truths (incl. gods)#which is shorthand but I've never been able to explain it to others to their satisfaction and it isn't anyone else's business anyway #he thought that was MUCH worse and became so dramatic. he was genuinely so thrown. he fixated on the fact it's heresy.#which I didn't expect because like yes it's heresy but heresy is a doctrinal concept -- it doesn't have any intrinsic meaning.#and not to be dismissive but doctrine is fairly sequestered from God. It's functionally and historically a voidable social contract.#i was involved with the church/attended various bible retreats for several years before leaving. but I didn't leave over God lmao.#my institutional involvement was always contingent on its alignment with my own individual purpose/practice/rituals/bible study/covenant.#which church/community leadership knew and tried to triage in various ways but like. it's not hard to reject authority baselessly derived.#so my present relationship with God isn't any more heretical than it was when I practiced Christianity as a religion.#If anything I was maybe more heretical in funnier and more flagrant ways when I was practicing than I am now.#but anyway. my point is.#i wont help you kill god but I'm always here for heresy.#alternatively i also recommend either (1) listening to god is dead (meet the kids) by british india #which when engaged with meaningfully amounts to the same philosophical state of being as killing God #or (2) forming a reverse orphic mystery cult relationship with Him the way I did when from ages 10-14 #in other words #we can either sacrifice God to the secular age like thomas jefferson and nietzsche #or we can obsessively study the bible @ the cost of enough sleep that we (in brief spurts) access the parts of us inclined towards prophecy #those are the only two approaches to god that I'm capable of partaking in with any sincerity or intellectual honesty #and I'm unfortunately very married to sincerity and intellectual honesty.#(i'm sorry for meeting your very nice compliments with a nonsequitur illustrating why i should live as a hermit in a remote woodland shack)#(but I suppose I'm not sorry enough to remove the nonsequitur from my response prior to publication. so. take from that what you will.)

throwback to my high school philosophy teacher trying to catch me with stuff like "actually Jesus never said he was God, did you know that" and smugly prove that I (kid who was read the bible from the age of 2 and got my own by like 7) didn’t know the gospels.

There’s plenty of passages that argue for Jesus’ divinity in them too #But my teacher’s argument wasn’t about the synoptic vs John or the historical Jesus vs what the gospel authors might have invented #His argument was that IN THE TEXT OF THE GOSPELS there was no point where Jesus claimed to be be God #Which is insane to me #How are you gonna be a philosophy teacher and not be more familiar with the utterly basic tenets of western culture’s core belief system #You can CLAIM that the ‘real’ Jesus never said it but you can’t possibly claim that he didn’t say it IN THE GOSPELS #French education is in shambles I swear #Also shoutout to my insane (affectionate) and brilliant very agnostic and very french American Literature and Civilisation college professo #Who spent three years straight ranting about the Logos and incarnation as intertext #I love you man you knew what was up #This is without even getting into the passages like ppl going “only God can forgive sins” and Jesus forgiving sins on the spot #Which btw happens in mark aka the earliest gospel and in Matthew aka the probably-written-in-Hebrew gospel #So it’s not something John made up as some culturally greek theological fan fiction

i'm honestly not sure exactly why he gives me these vibes* but i do genuinely think that canon dave** is not religious because he never got exposed to actual religion beyond general cultural osmosis rather than because he's actively not religious??

in particular, i love me some jewish strilondes, and dave feels to me like the most likely one of them to be genuinely observant if he got the chance, so i've been enjoying exploring that in a couple of my wips where the context allows for it.

*beyond, like, personal projection, and some nebulous thoughts about his extremely antagonistic relationship with his aspect

**in a watsonian sense, i mean. the doylist reason real-world religion isn't ever discussed in hs beyond a few dumb jokes is because that wasn't something the author was interested in exploring, which i am grateful for because come on, would you trust him of all people to handle that well
